Why do you need to change the medication cup every 6 months?
This is a question we are often asked. The reason is because the small pinhole in the bottom half of your med cup will increase in size over time. This pinhole size is important because it determines the amount of air pressure that is delivered to convert your liquid medication into a mist. The size of the particles that are produced during this process is very important. Smaller particles are delivered to the area of the lung that needs the medication. Larger particles that are too heavy to travel to the deeper part of the lung are deposited on the tongue, back of the throat or upper airway or simply fall back into the bottom of the medication cup and get re-nebulized.
As the pinhole increases in size over time, the air pressure decreases and causes your nebulizer medication cup to produce larger particles. The end result is two fold; first, you get fewer beneficial medication particles deep into the lungs, and second, your treatment time increases.
How can you tell if you need a new medication cup before the six months are up? Simple - if your treatments are taking much longer to complete than they used to, perhaps it's time for a new medication cup.
Includes:
Upper and lower sections of the medication cup, both one-way valves, internal cone and mouthpiece.
The Nebulizer Medication Cups should be replaced every six (6) months in order to obtain proper operation of your handheld nebulizer.
